NEWPORT LACROSSE SPRING SEASON FAQ

Youth Program Grades K – 8

We are excited for our lacrosse schedule this spring.  We will be fielding teams for the K-2, 3/4, 5/6, and 7/8 levels!  We are looking to grow our club even more and be able to field teams at all levels.  Please tell your friends, neighbors, and classmates about the great sport of lacrosse, and invite them to join us this spring!

K – 2nd Grade
Our K-2 program will include two midweek practices and a Saturday game. The program aims to introduce young players to lacrosse and help them develop basic stick and ball skills in a fun and safe environment. It is overseen by an experienced adult lacrosse coach and implemented with the support of skilled high school players. The K-2 program will start in late February and run through late May. Participants will need full gear to join. Games (6 vs 6 without a goalie) will be played through the Greater Eastside Lacrosse League.

3rd & 4th Grade
Our 3/4 program focuses on development, emphasizing fundamental skills and introducing team offense and defense concepts. At this level, games are played on a reduced field with fewer players (7 vs 7 with a goalie), enhancing skill development and providing more opportunities to score goals and make saves. Players are evenly divided into teams based on skill levels determined during initial practice evaluations. Teams practice twice a week starting in late February, with games held on Saturdays beginning in March and continuing through May. Games are organized through the Greater Eastside Lacrosse League.

5th & 6th Grade
Our 5/6 program remains developmental, focusing on fundamental skills and the advancement of multiple team offense and defense concepts. At this level, players transition to full-size fields and full-sided 10 vs. 10 games. Teams are evenly divided based on skill evaluations conducted during the initial practices. Practices are held 3 times per week starting in late January, with games taking place on Saturdays from March through May. Games are organized through the Greater Eastside Lacrosse League.

7th & 8th Grade
Our 7/8 program becomes more competitive while continuing to emphasize fundamental skills and the development of advanced team concepts. Players are evenly divided into teams based on skill evaluations conducted during the initial practices. Teams practice three times per week starting in late January. This year, league games will be held on Saturdays beginning in March and running through May. Games are organized through the Greater Eastside Lacrosse League.

Tournaments
Traditionally, the 5/6 and 7/8 teams have participated in one or two post-season tournaments – we will determine which tournaments we qualify for once we have final team numbers closer to each event.  These are usually held in June and are local. (We have previously played in the WA Cup held in Issaquah, and the Summer Solstice Tournament held at Star Fire in Tukwila.).   These tournaments are extra-curricular and will require an additional fee.  More information will be coming as we get into the season.

Newport Lacrosse Youth Program is part of the Greater Eastside Youth Lacrosse League (GELL).  GELL includes many of the area’s highly developed lacrosse programs and teams in the Northwest including Bellevue, Eastlake, Issaquah, Mercer Island, Mt. Si, Northshore, the Overlake School, Redmond, Skyline, Tahoma and Woodinville.  GELL specifically serves youth lacrosse K through the 8th grade.
