Pete Schmitt
High School Varsity Head Coach and Program Director

Coach Pete Schmitt, a proud native of Washington and graduate of Roosevelt High School (Seattle, WA, Class of 1988), has been a cornerstone of the lacrosse community in the Pacific Northwest. Beginning his lacrosse journey as a high school freshman in 1984, Schmitt is widely regarded as one of the “founding fathers” of the sport in Washington State. In 1987 and 1988, he earned the distinction of starting goalie for Washington State’s inaugural All-Stars High School travel teams. His outstanding performance garnered him recruitment to Whittier College (Whittier, CA), where he competed in the 1989 and 1990 seasons before transferring to Western Washington University (Bellingham, WA).

At WWU, Schmitt led the Vikings Lacrosse team to an impressive 12-0 record in 1992, culminating in a PNLA collegiate championship victory over the University of Washington in the finals.

Following his collegiate career, Schmitt continued to contribute to the game as a club player and founder of The Blue Collar Lacrosse Club. With his leadership, the team captured PNLA Men’s Club Championships in 1996, 1997, and 1999 before he retired as a player.

Schmitt’s coaching career began in 1995 as the defensive coordinator for Franklin High School, a role he held until 1999. He later joined the University of Washington Men’s Lacrosse team as defensive coordinator from 2000 to 2002. In 2005, he returned to coaching, joining the Mt. Si youth boys’ lacrosse program. In 2007, Schmitt helped launch Mt. Si High School’s boys’ lacrosse program, serving as goalie coach and defensive coordinator. Under his guidance, the team quickly established itself as a formidable presence through 2012.

In 2023, Schmitt transitioned to coaching girls’ lacrosse, becoming an assistant coach for the Mt. Si High School Girls Varsity program. In this role, he focused on goalie coaching and served as the Director of Intensity and Training.

Over three decades, Coach Schmitt has played a pivotal role in developing successful lacrosse teams and programs, leaving a lasting impact on the sport. Currently, he serves as Program Director for Newport Lacrosse Club and Head Coach for Newport High School Boys Lacrosse, continuing his legacy of excellence and dedication to the game.
